The October update for Rust has arrived and brings with it a complete overhaul of the world generation for the survival title from Facepunch, as well as a few other new features.
World generation
Legacy monument: Radtown
The “Radtown” monument, which many players will remember from the legacy version of Rust, is now back in the game. The developers have tried to preserve the general appearance and add new paths and cover options.
Waterwell update
The Waterwell monument was given a merchant in the October update to make it more interesting for players.
This merchant has different types of tea and equipment for cultivation in his range and changes his offer every 30 minutes.
In addition, you will now find more food crates, crates of tea and already filled plant boxes in the area that you can harvest.
Cliffs & rock formations
The cliffs and rock formations in the game have been fundamentally revised and now offer more visual variety as well as better tactical options for players.
More cover and hiding places to surprise other players should improve the gameplay.
Canyons, lakes and oases
Three major new features are the chance to explore different canyons, lakes and oases during map generation. These new locations bring new opportunities for exploration, gathering and building to the game.
- Canyons: Offer narrow canyons that are perfect for raids but also for bases and can provide many resources
- Lakes: A place to fish, gather resources and build your base.
- Oases: A paradise in the desert that is rich in resources but also attracts many players
River Overhaul
The rivers in Rust now look much more realistic and blend in better with the landscape. The further the river flows, the wider it becomes.
Legacy woodpile
In the snow biome and the temperate areas, you will now find logs that have more or less the same functionality as the lumps of ore for iron, sulphur and the like.
You can quickly mine them with a stone or tool and get a nice amount of wood.
Dive sites
The previous indicators for diving spots (floating bottles) have been replaced by buoys, which now mark the spots.
The dive sites themselves have also been replaced by three new versions, each containing 6 loot boxes.
You will now also find more detailed flora and fauna around the buoys and dive sites.
Diver propulsion vehicle (DPV)
The “Diver Propulsion Vehicle” is a new, small vehicle that can be used in the water. Once created, you can stow it in your inventory and use it when needed.
If the water is at least one meter deep, you can place the vehicle, fill the tank with some fuel and then use it.
The vehicle will allow you to travel much faster underwater and as soon as you no longer need it, you can simply put it back in its place.
High caliber revolver
The new weapon in the game is the large-caliber revolver, which fires 5.56 calibre ammunition. The weapon shoots relatively slowly, but causes significantly more damage than its smaller brother.
The weapon can be unlocked via the Tier 2 workbench.
Radioactive water
Radioactive water is now available as a new gameplay feature in Rust. You can find this water in two locations in the new Radtown Monument and can collect and transport it using a water container.
The water has the following effects:
- Plants: If you tip it onto plants, they will die immediately.
- Players: If the water is tipped onto players or distributed via a sprinkler system, they will be irradiated.
- Transportation: If you carry large quantities of water with you, you will be contaminated.
- Loot: If you loot a player who is carrying large quantities of the water, it will irradiate you when you loot them.
So you can use the water in a variety of ways and in the future there will also be new possibilities for the developers, as all items can now be marked as radioactive (in the game code).
General improvements
- Spray can improvements: Spray cans now retain their container color, even across restarts and deaths.
- Notes world model: Notes now have their own world model and are no longer loot bags.
- Underwater visibility: Visibility while underwater has been significantly increased.
- Repair workbench: The repair workbench now displays icons for the repair in addition to the text.
