The new wild target in Hunt: Showdown 1896 is called Hellborn and has a damn short fuse when it comes across you.
Our guide shows you how to find the boss, the best way to fight it and what else you should look out for!
How do you find the Hellborn?
First of all, you need to determine whether the boss can even be present in your current game round. Only if there is only one main boss (Spider, Slayer, Assassin or Shotbeak) will the Hellsprout be on the map.
So if there is only one main boss on the map, simply use your shadow vision and listen. You will hear the boss scream or howl approximately every 10 seconds.
The closer you get to him, the louder it gets.
If the boss is very close, you can often hear his footsteps and a kind of growl.
Hellborn spawn points
There are currently five spawn points where you can find the Hellborn. We have marked the currently confirmed spawn points on the map.
Depending on where you spawn and in which direction you hear the Hellsprout, you can then take a look at the map and exclude locations.
Hellborn Behavior & Abilities
The Hellborn looks like an oversized Immolator and has an even shorter fuse than its little brother. As soon as it notices you, it will scream and try to reach and hit you.
If it gets close to you, it will trigger a fire nova, which will also release a rain of lava with large projectiles into the surrounding area.
If he does not manage to reach you directly or you are too far away, he will throw four fire bombs at you.
These immediately trigger a strong fire on contact and burn away small life bars.
The damage and the area effect are roughly comparable to a hellfire bomb.
The boss has no “Rage” mechanics.
Although the boss is not classically found in a building, it still has a certain radius in which it moves and which it does not leave.
- Ability 1 – Fire Nova: The Hellborn triggers a fire nova around itself and spits fireballs like a volcano.
- Ability 2 – Fireballs: The boss throws fireballs at enemies it can’t easily reach.
How to fight the Hellborn? Whats its weakness?
Try to keep a medium distance from the boss to avoid both his nova and the fireballs.
With the fireballs in particular, you need to pay attention to your surroundings: if you are standing against a wall or in front of an obstacle, the fireball can hit it and the area effect will still hit you.
The most vulnerable point where the Hellborn receives the most damage is its head.
Hellborn Weaknesses
The boss is particularly vulnerable to the following types of damage:
- Any melee damage
- Choking clouds
- Pennyshot ammunition
- Explosive weapons
You should be very careful, especially in melee combat, and at best have the pact trait Berserker to hand.

Banishment & loot
As soon as you have killed the Hellborn, you will immediately receive the restoration effect for your entire team without a banishment, which fully restores all life bars.
The boss also drops a bounty item and a “burn trait”, i.e. a trait that burns after use.
These include, for example, “Death Cheat”, “Necromancer” and “Shadow”.
As soon as the boss dies, a scream sounds throughout the map and all hunters know that he has been killed.
In addition, a burnt spot appears on the map, as with other banishments, and the bounty is marked by a lightning bolt in the same way as with the other bosses.
Tips & tricks for the Hellborn
- Get Salveskin as an ability so that you take less damage.
- Lay down clouds of choke bombs that you can run through to extinguish yourself and pull the boss through them
- Although the choking bombs extinguish the fireballs, they still cause damage to you!
- The boss will attack the player closest to him first. You can use this to your advantage.
- The team that deals the last damage to the boss before the kill receives the recovery. You can also use this to your advantage and let others do the work for you.
