The next wipe for Escape from Tarkov is here and brings patch 0.16.0.0 with it. This means that all players will be starting from scratch shortly after Christmas and will have to earn their progress again.
We have compiled the most important contents of the update for you and also have the German patch notes ready.
Christmas event “Khorovod”
The “Khorovod” Christmas event is active in the game. You have to complete various themed tasks to unlock the eponymous “Khorovod” mode.
For the mode itself, you have to find a Christmas tree on certain maps, fill up a generator there and then protect it for a few minutes and finally light the tree.
You will then be given the opportunity to transit to the next map.
Winter season & hypothermia
Winter has also arrived in Tarkov and once again cloaks the maps in white snow.
However, the weather also has its pitfalls, as the new “Frostbite” status effect significantly reduces both your vision and your stamina.
As soon as you are affected, you will have to warm up again by burning barrels or in buildings – or you can drink alcoholic beverages to temporarily deactivate the effects.
Reworked “Customs” location
The Customs map will be significantly revised in patch 0.16.0.0 and will feature some new, previously inaccessible areas. These include three new accessible buildings, new areas, new exits and a transit to the coast (“Shoreline”).
Prestige system
The prestige system is only available to players in PvP mode and lets you start again from the beginning after a series of requirements, i.e. almost like a wipe.
However, you get the opportunity to keep certain equipment, a share of character skills and weapon knowledge.
Rewards include a special melee weapon, additional daily and weekly tasks, cosmetic customizations for the game menu (backgrounds, hideout) and your character (gestures, bracelets) as well as achievements.
Initially, only two prestige levels will be available, but up to ten levels with additional rewards (clothing, camp enhancements) will be added.
Continuous healing system
With this feature, you can heal yourself completely with a single interaction and, depending on the healing item, also remove other negative effects.
Bleeding and fractures are prioritized and then the body part with the fewest health points.
However, adjustments to the controls are required to use this feature.
Hidden exits
Another new feature is hidden exits, which can only be unlocked in the maps themselves.
These do not appear in the list of normal exits and you first have to find certain items, which then give you a clue to the exit and open it.
These items must be found in each raid and cannot be brought out with you.
The exits will be available for both PMCs and player scavs.
New Unity version & audio updates
After an update to the latest Unity version has been in discussion for years and has been postponed again and again, the time has finally come.
This will allow developers to benefit from newer improvements and options.
The audio system has also been updated and the developers have now completely removed the option to switch to the old sound system.
So you can no longer play with the bineural audio system.
Recoil, flea market and FIR status
Three major changes are already the subject of much controversy in the community:
- There are adjustments to recoil, which will mainly have a visual impact
- The flea market will remain completely deactivated for the first 2 weeks after the wipe
- All items that can be used to build stations in the stash must have the status “Found in Raid” (FIR).
While the actual effect of the recoil can probably only be tested with the launch of the game servers, the other changes are already making waves and causing a lot of discussion in the community.
For example, the decision to deactivate the flea market for the first two weeks is perceived as rather positive, as the feeling of a “fresh start for everyone” will be maintained for longer and frequent players will not have such a huge advantage.
However, when it comes to the requirement for the components of the hideout stations, the feedback so far has been very critical.
The condition “Found in raid” only applies if you come out of the raid alive with your PMC or Scav character. However, items bought from the flea market or saved in the safety container even after the death of your own character lose this status.
This, combined with the now much more dynamic and partly randomized item spawn system in Escape from Tarkov, could mean that it takes exponentially longer to build up even the first stations in the hideout.
Especially for newcomers and players who have less playing time per week, it might be much more difficult and time-consuming to catch up, even more difficult than it already is in Escape from Tarkov.
